I\u2019ve been buying and selling rocking horses for well over\na decade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I mentioned in my previous post<\/a>, I typically work with two different types of people. The first type are owners who want me to sell their rocking horse for a commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other type are rocking horse artists and makers who\nwant me to buy and sell their rocking horses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ll highlight some of the styles, makes and types of rocking\nhorses that I have bought from wood carving artists and sold as well as those\nthat did not sell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Build a rocking horse kit<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This was a popular product that sold year after year until the maker retired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This one was always in demand. It sold well because it was the right price and it looks like a winner! As a result I was always selling it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How many sold? This one was always in demand as well and took the artist a couple months to make. Before it shipped to the customer another had been purchased, therefore, it was never in stock. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tips to sell volume or get top dollar for a quality rocking horse:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Consumers are drawn to natural wood grain and white rocking horses.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Most of the rocking horses that have sold well, were natural wood grain, stained wood or painted white. For instance, if you have a natural wood grain horse that sells, try offering it in white also so that no wood grain is visible. You may be surprised what happens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parents and grandparents want to buy rocking horses that look like a winner.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Parents and especially grandparents feel such pride in their grandchild and want only the best for them. Keep that in mind when designing for a winner. One of the best winner designs I\u2019ve sold is the Big Zeke Rocking Horse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Great artists don\u2019t just make things that people request, they figure out what people really want, make and sell it.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

From a business point of view, the difference between a\ngood artist and a great one is being able to do what you love because your art\nsells consistently and supports you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Winning commissioned art projects can be a path to follow\nbut another is creating the same piece of high-quality art that sells over and\nover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Rocking Colt artist did commissioned projects but\nalso learned over time what a broader audience of art buyers wanted and would\npay a high price for, consistently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I began working with this artist, he was traveling to art shows to sell his art but wanted to sell more online. I helped him get setup and together we found that not only did celebrities buy the Rocking Colt, but many others did as well. At that point we were off to the races as they say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
